Fall is a year around holiday for me which means I will enjoy Pumpkin flavors recipes all year long! I received a few request for a Pumpkin Protein Mug Cake that is super simple to make, but tastes amazing so of course I jumped to the challenge and have this delicious and healthy Low Carb Pumpkin Spice Protein Mug Cake Recipe for you!
One of the awesome parts about this recipe that I always encourage my private clients is that you can enjoy this right before bed without worrying about weight gain because #1 it is low carb and #2 it has a large amount of Casein Protein inside the mix.
What is Casein? Casein is a protein source that is slow digesting which means that it can take up to 6-8 hours for the full protein to hit your muscles and blood stream. The reason this is good at night is because your muscles are literally being fueled and sustained while you sleep. Ever woken up in the morning starving hungry when you ate a late meal the night before? It’s because your body burns off all that food while you sleep.
However, if you do not eat anything at night sometimes you body becomes catabolic and uses the lean muscle you do have to fuel itself and pretty much eats up your muscle instead of burning up food. Casein helps sustain this for the 6-8 hours you are sleeping.
On top of that, there is a portion of this mix that has Whey Protein in it which is for fast absorption rate to the muscles which is why I recommend in your lean strength training program that you consume some source of whey protein immediately after your workout that will hit your muscles fast.
